G. Ferrari and A. Cilfone participate to the kick-off meeting of the European project Aggregate Farming in the Cloud (AFarCloud), Call H2020-ECSEL- 2017-2-RIA-two-stage, project ID 783221. The kick-off was held at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in Madrid, Spain. The project involves 60 partners, is coordinated by UPM, and the total project cost is over 28 M€. The paper “Monitoring infants by automatic video processing: a unified approach,” co-authored by L. Cattani, D. Alinovi, G. Ferrari, R. Raheli, E. Pavlidis, C. Spagnoli, F. Pisani and
published in Elsevier Computers in Biology and Medicine (vol. 80, 1 January 2017, pp. 158-165. DOI:10.1016/j.compbiomed.2016.11.010) received the Honors status. The award is assigned to the top 9% of over 300 papers published in 2017.

N. Strozzi and G. Ferrari participate to the 7th meeting of the NATO Research Task Group HFM–260 “Enhancing Warfighter Effectiveness with Wearable Bio Sensors and Physiologicol Models” in Portsmouth, UK. Attendees from USA, Canada, UK, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Italy come together for a concept demonstration. IoT Lab presented a live demo on hybrid GPS-inertial multiple person tracking.

Prof. Ferrari and Prof. Agostino Gambarotta (University of Parma) coordinate a panel on “Smart Energy – Environment & Grid – Infrastructure” at Parma Futuro Smart: progettare città smart e resilienti per tutti – Scenari per Parma Futuro Smart al 2030,” Officine ON/OFF, Parma, Italy. In the panel, attendees discuss on the most relevant trends for Parma in a smart future, in the context of smart energy distribution and IoT-based monitoring.

Prof. Ferrari gives the invited speech “Parma 2030: inclusiva, attrattiva e sostenibile” at the meeting Parma Smart Benchmarking: equilibrio, inclusione, sostenibilità e attrattività, organized by FPA
and the Municipality of Parma in Palazzo del Governatore, Parma.
In his speech, Prof. Ferrari discusses the impact of IoT (multiple radio technologies, inertial navigation) and future telecommunications technologies (5G) on the development of smart cities.
